I know too many people who have graduated high school and yet cannot read or spell or have no understanding of grammar and usage. My good friend Ben Franklin is a shining example, I know him to be a brilliant man, far ahead of his time, yet the educational system failed to teach him what he needs to properly express himself in writing. Please don't take offense Ben. He is not alone, probably millions of people graduated high school without the proper education they deserve. Why does this happen, because teachers dont care. They dont care, they just want that child to pass, because it makes them look good. If a teacher is honestly failing students, the school administration thinks that teacher must be a failure. So to keep their jobs they are passing kids who should be held back. I know that no parent wants to hear that their child is being held back, but think about it, maybe it's best for your child. After all, every child develops at their own pace. Let's reform the educational system, so that every child graduates with all the tools necessary to be an intelligent adult in a modern world. A little about myself, I dropped out of high school, it was the biggest mistake of my life. However high school let me down, the education I was getting was substandard. I taught myself all those necessary tools, sometimes the hardest way I could find. I grew to understand that I should have stayed in high school, because even a substandard education is better than nothing. I consider myself an intelligent person today thanks to what I learned in school and what life taught me. In high school I only had one class that really challenged my mind, the rest were mindless repitition. Mr. Betts history class, was where I learned to really open my mind to new ideas and theories. He was a great teacher and the reason I still love history today. Thank you Mr. Betts. If only all teachers could be like him.
Respectfully Yours
